Certified nurse midwives offer primary health care services for women of all ages. They specialize in caring for women during pregnancy, labor & delivery, and after the baby is born.
Midwives build a relationship with you, provide reassurance and encourage an open dialogue. The advantage of using a midwife is that they are with you throughout your pregnancy providing and fostering comfort during your labor. They also have the benefit of physician back up if the need arises.
CNM's take a complete medical history and give you a thorough, gentle examination. You will be encouraged to ask questions and be given plenty of time for answers. CNM's will teach you how to maintain good habits and self-care practices that support your health. Midwives prescribe medications for treatment of common illnesses. The Institute of Medicine, the U.S. government's top scientific organization, recommends "more reliance be placed on certified nurse-midwives" for primary health care.
Should you develop a medical condition that needs more specialized treatment, you will be referred to a gynecologist, or other specialists as needed. Years of experience and continued education enable CNM’s to provide a compassionate approach to all aspects of women's health care. |
